1869 Creation of “La Solidarité” the first socialist mutual help society that provided the basis for the notion of mutual society, in the Belgium province of Hainaut.

1894

First law on mutual benefit societies.

1913 Creation of the Union Nationale des Mutualités Socialistes (UNMS).

1945 Setting up of the compulsory social security system.

1963 Law on of the compulsory incapacity health insurance system.

1990 Setting out of a new legal framework on 6th August through a law setting the objectives and tasks of mutual benefit societies. Specification of their mission: including the promotion of physical, mental and social
well-being.

The Socialist Mutual benefit society demonstrates highly efficient and up-to-date management methods with its founding values and principles of :
